There comes a time in everyone’s life challenging decisions must be made. Do I sacrifice or satisfice? When is it time to let go of youthful dreams and fantasies and seize the opportunities presented in the real world? Are you the damsel in the ivory tower awaiting the prince in shining armor to come to the rescue, or a hoping that frog you’ve come across will transform in a prince when your kiss is placed upon its lips? As time wears on, I wonder has time passed me by or is the best yet to come? There’s a saying that we are our own worst critic. Sometimes I think that I have underachieved and at times overachieved. Self image is a very important part in maintaining a healthy and successful emotional relationship. Let’s face it if you don’t love yourself who will? That said, very often relationships are based on superficial tenets (appearance, possessions, status, etc….) I found that romantic love is often a fleeting thing. Just like a raging fire, it burns hot and intense for awhile but eventually begins to smolder. I have a simple principle I believe in and that is you have to like person that you are with more than you love them because they will be days that love alone won’t get you through. There no such thing as a perfect relationship or a perfect partner. The best I can do is be the best me I can be. If that is not good enough for the partner I choose then the choice made was not correct. The 50-50 relationship is a mythical legend that some people still desperately cling to as validation of their bonding. There will be times when the balance is tilted to 90-10 or 80-20. Hopefully, the situations that arise in the relationship aren’t weighted in one direction. Everyone needs support, guidance and love at some point in their life. No man or woman is an island.
